Well, no need to feel sorry any more. In today's version the little piggoes to a green architect and uses straw bales, adding greatly to thestrength of the building.
Knowle West Media Centre, a youth and community centre at the heart of alarge estate in south Bristol, has done just that. The young people evenchose the bales of straw themselves before they were packed together, formed into larger blocks and used to wall the building.
As applicants put together their proposals for MyPlace, the BigLottery-funded investment programme in youth facilities, it would beinteresting to know how many are putting sustainability at the top oftheir thinking. It would be a great shame if we didn't seize thisinvestment opportunity to design more effective and sustainablebuildings.
