Detached work is seen as a key way of reaching socially excluded or at-risk young people, but at the same time the public space workers must operate in is becoming increasingly controlled and restricted. The conference, titled "Facing the challenges", will examine the issues and seek creative and practical responses to the dilemmas created for detached youth workers.
These range from the impact of antisocial behaviour orders and target-driven funding to the youth crime-prevention, partnership and participation agendas.
The conference takes place on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 November at The Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, Derbyshire. The first day will explore the issues and dilemmas, the second will to build on this and develop practical ways to take action.
