Accessing Positive Activities: Innovative solutions for young people's bus travel is intended to support authorities in achieving aims outlined in the government's Aiming High For Young People strategy by providing a clear outline of the issues faced by young people using buses (or wanting to use buses) to access positive activities, and exploring potential solutions to current problems.
In helping to put the report together, young people identified a number of barriers to using public buses, primarily cost, availability, reliability and the attitude of drivers and staff.
Despite a growing number of innovative schemes being developed by local authorities and bus companies to encourage bus use, large numbers of young people currently express a preference for avoiding public transport altogether and to drive once they are old enough.
