The National Youth Agency: NYA to offer support funding for 3-year PhD research studentship

1 min read
The National Youth Agency is to support a PhD studentship from October 2008, in partnership with the Open University.

A successful application to the Economic and Social Research Council's Case studentship scheme means The Agency will be able to support a research student over the next three years.

The research will focus on supporting effective communication between the wide range of stakeholders involved in delivering services for young people. It will explore how terms like "positive activities" and "positive outcomes" for young people are understood by policy-makers, managers, practitioners of differing backgrounds, and young people themselves.

Tricia Jessiman, The NYA's research co-ordinator, said: "We are delighted that the ESRC saw the value in this work and are supporting it. Carrying out a research project in this way allows us to carry out rigorous in-depth research that otherwise might be prohibitively expensive, and at the same time invest in the long-term research capacity in this sector by supporting a student to doctoral level. We are also looking forward to expanding our partnership with the OU."
