The National Youth Agency: A real Whizz kid

1 min read
I'm Rebecca Farren, I'm 15 and I volunteer for one of the best charities in the UK called Whizz-Kidz.

Whizz-Kidz is a mobility equipment provider for young people up to the age of 18. They also provide services such as ambassador clubs, skills training programmes and a work placements scheme for disabled young people aged up to 25.

I first got involved with Whizz-Kidz just over two years ago when I was invited to one of their equipment exhibitions and sport days. I really enjoyed the day so I was invited to the Ambassadors' Christmas Party. I've been attending ambassador clubs ever since.

I decided to do some further volunteer work for Whizz-Kidz because I really believe in what they do and they've done so much for me so I wanted to give something back. I do a range of volunteering for them including collecting cheques, putting together their newsletter and becoming a buddy at their wheelchair skills training sessions. This involves mentoring a younger child, wheeling alongside them and giving encouragement and help where needed. This is really hard but fun at the same time.
