The GTC Registration of Temporary Teachers from Relevant European States Regulations 2009.

Education
The government wants to introduce regulations to ensure qualified teachers from a European Economic Area state or Switzerland are subject to the same requirements and safeguards as all other teachers when working temporarily in England or Wales without Qualified Teacher Status.

The regulations aim to make provision for these teachers to register with the General Teaching Councils (GTC) for England or Wales, and be compliant with EU Directive 2005/36. They will enable GTCs to assess whether a temporary teacher is a suitable candidate before they take up a post. Extending this registration provision to temporary teachers would provide more consistency across the profession, as all teachers would be subject to the GTCs' suitability assessment and regulatory framework. The results will be published in January 2010.

Closing date: 7 October.
