Teenage parents want play sessions

1 min read Health
Young parents want to be taught how to play with their children to help them develop, according to a report by Community Links.

The guidance What Young Parents Really Want: Innovative Ideas for Service Providers was put together by a group of mums and dads for the charity, which runs community-based projects in east London. The parents said they wanted to understand how their children learn and develop through sessions run by a play worker.

The group also said they did not want to be judged and wanted people to recognise the specific needs of teenage mothers and fathers. They said they should meet up to discuss the prejudices they face and look at ways to overcome them.

The guidance also noted that a social life was important to young parents, who said there should be groups for mothers and fathers with children of a similar age and peer mentors to help others to join them.
