Goals: To provide practical, emotional and mentoring support for parents in the Hartcliffe, Withywood and Highridge areas
Funding: 126,000 a year from the Single Regeneration Budget, Urban 2 (part of the European Structural Fund) and Bristol City Council
In September 1991, St Andrew's Church in the Hartcliffe area of Bristol opened its doors to young parents who were unable to access youth services with their babies, creating the Hartcliffe & Withywood Teenage Parents Project.
The project, which was originally a partnership between the church, the South Bristol Primary Care Trust and Bristol Youth Service, became an independent charity two years ago. It is now led by a management committee of six young parents, all trained by the Avon and Bristol Law Centre.
