Project notes: Raid Cross

1 min read

Goals: To help young people understand international humanitarian law in conflict situations

Funding: Jointly funded by the British and French Red Cross, costing approximately 500

Spending the day talking about international humanitarian law isn't everyone's idea of fun. But turn it into an interactive outdoor game with hundreds of players and you might change people's opinions. Raid Cross, invented by the French and Belgian Red Cross, is a role-play game designed to increase young people's understanding of humanitarian issues in conflict situations.

The game was played for the first time in the UK when 176 Scouts aged between 14 and 25 came together in Chelmsford at EuroJam, the big annual European Scout festival. A total of 10,000 young people from more than 60 countries took part in the event, held from 29 July to 10 August.
