Young people in Leicester are being encouraged to get involved with music and play a role in the local community as part of youth inclusion project Streetvibe.

Funding: Around £260,000 a year, which includes mixture of core funding and donations from organisations including Leicester City Council

Aim: To engage young people in positive activities

Young people in Leicester are being encouraged to get involved with music and play a role in the local community as part of a youth inclusion project.

Streetvibe, which has been running since 2000, engages a mixture of those at risk of offending and the socially excluded.

Working with young people aged 13 and over, the project provides them with a youth club to go to, as well as an outreach music workshop, including courses in DJing and sound engineering. A further strand sees outreach workers visit specific areas in the city, delivering services including advice on sexual health issues. Streetvibe also has a youth panel, where young people can have a say in how the project is organised. This panel administers a youth action fund, which provides local young people with small grants for activities and initiatives.
