Project: Enthusiasm

Funding: £650,000 - 80 per cent from contracts and 20 per cent from grants

Aim: To provide opportunities for young people to fulfil their potential and reduce the risk of youth offending

From humble beginnings in 1992, the Enthusiasm project has grown to become a leading example of successful engagement with young people.

The registered charity runs Derby's youth inclusion programme, working with 11- to 18-year-olds who are at risk of offending and social exclusion.

Joe Russo, founder and chief executive, says: "It kicked off because I looked out of my house one day and saw children hanging around with nothing to do. I set up a youth club and it has grown from there. We now operate across Derby and come into contact with more than 5,000 people on an annual basis."
