Funding: Department for Children, Schools and Families' Youth Taskforce and the Youth Crime Action Plan
Aim: To tackle antisocial behaviour in Plymouth
Youth workers in Plymouth are helping to reduce antisocial behaviour and boost community cohesion by running a variety of projects for young people.
Involving activities such as football and break-dancing, as well as an enforcement aspect, the Streetwise project, run by Plymouth Youth Service, targets problem "hotspots". Youth workers team up with the police and staff from the council's antisocial behaviour unit to identify young people who are causing concern within the community.
Besides enforcement action such as Asbos, the partners instigate significant group and individual work with young people. This can include a place on the city's Kickz project, which offers young people free football sessions in association with Plymouth Argyle Football Club and the Football Association. Other activities have included break-dancing through a street-dancing workshop called Break.
