A Saturday night sports project in Scotland is helping to reduce levels of crime and antisocial behaviour.

Project: Saturday SportScene
Funding: North Lanarkshire Community Safety Partnership
Aim: Reduce levels of crime by engaging young people with sport

Saturday SportScene consists of free and interactive activities for young people on a Saturday night in North Lanarkshire.

Beginning life as a pilot project in 2006 in response to concerns about a lack of facilities and activities for young people, it quickly proved to be a big success and was rolled out to other areas across the county.

It is now taking place in four sports centres, thanks to funding through the North Lanarkshire Community Safety Partnership's local action fund.

SportScene activities are taken by fully qualified coaches and include swimming, dance, football, basketball, badminton, gym sessions, sumo wrestling, a mobile skate park and a climbing wall, as well as health checks and access to IT equipment.
