Sport: Merseyside Youth Games targets hard to reach

1 min read

The Liverpool Culture Company, which organises the event, is enlisting detached youth workers to channel young people into the Merseyside Youth and Community Games. About 1,000 first-time participants have already been identified.

The event, on 17 August, is a remodelling of the region's annual youth games, in which eight out of 10 competitors were already sports club members. John Moore, creative sports manager at the Liverpool Culture Company, said: "There's already a network of events that competitive young people can fit into. We want to provide stepping stones for more young people to consider sport, because it can change lives."

The organisation is also launching a project next month called Girls with a Goal, to get more young women into sport.
