Sport England sets 2012 youth targets

Education Health Youth Work
Sport England has published a strategy to inspire young people to get active, in a bid to capitalise on the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The document outlines a number of targets for 2012, including reducing the number of 16-year-olds who stop doing sports in particular settings by a quarter. Jennie Price, chief executive of Sport England, said: "I am confident that the governing bodies of sport will rise to the challenge of delivering on participation, talent support and increased satisfaction within their sports."

A spokesman for the Youth Sport Trust said it was important to combat the drop off in young people taking part in sport.

"We really welcome the focus on reducing the number of young people not taking part in sport," he said. "We will be working with Sport England to stop it and will work closely with it to deliver the strategy."
