
Thousands of young people from across the capital have access to a range of sports in which they have a desire to participate through the Getting Ready initiative run by London Youth.
Launched in 2009, the sports development programme targets disadvantaged 14- to 25-year-olds who may not have access to facilities, equipment or instructor-led training. The scheme aims to encourage them to live active and healthy lifestyles, while providing them with access to specialist equipment and coaching, as well as the opportunity to gain national governing body-accredited coaching qualifications.
Explaining how it works, London Youth sports development officer Jas Hothi says: "I meet with the youth workers and discuss their needs in terms of what the young people and the club would like to have running.
