London Youth has been awarded £86,400 to deliver a two-year programme for disabled children and young people between eight- and 25-years-old as part of a WNST initiative to increase opportunities for disabled people in the capital.
The youth-led programme, which launches in January, will follow London Youth’s Getting Ready initiative and will be delivered through six of its youth clubs across central, east and west London.
The funding will enable 240 disabled children and young people to take part in sports, while 144 will be able to gain an accredited sports qualification.
John Jones, sports development officer at London Youth, said he is looking forward to the programme starting.
“We are delighted that the WNST has backed our Getting Ready sports development programme," he said.
“This funding will allow six local and respected organisations to provide much-needed sport opportunities for disabled young people, and support the development of confident, multi-skilled leaders and coaches.
“This project is part of London Youth’s wider inclusion commitment and reflects our vision that all young Londoners access a wide range of high-quality opportunities for learning and fun that develop confidence, character and skill.”
