The clubs in six boroughs across the capital are to receive a share of £250,000 from Sport England’s Community Sport Activation Fund, which will offer young people access to better coaching and equipment.
The fund is investing £5.1m into improving sports facilities across the country for the next three years, though not all areas have received money specifically for young people.
Young Londoners will be able to try one of 35 sports and activities such as football, tennis, street dance and tag rugby.
Rosie Ferguson, chief executive of London Youth, said the project would increase young people’s future prospects, by helping them “re-engage in learning and develop their confidence and character”.
“We’re so pleased that Sport England has made this investment, and are confident that the National Lottery funding can help us bring more resources into community sport, from business and other partners, so that we can have a truly transformative effect on sport in London,” she said.
