Children's Secretary Ed Balls announced last week that the Department for Children, Schools and Families would spend £40m relaunching youth services across the capital. A further £20m will come from the London Development Agency.
The £60m London Youth Offer is part of a two-year package of measures to address high levels of child poverty in the capital. It will see increased funding for youth services and will target the most deprived and hard-to-reach young Londoners who are at risk of becoming victims of crime or getting involved in antisocial behaviour or street gangs.
Nick Wilkie, chief executive of London Youth, which represents more than 400 clubs in the capital, said the announcement showed the government was taking the concerns of youth clubs seriously.
