Getting Hooked: Get Hooked on Fishing, Angling and Youth Inclusion was published by social research group Substance, and funded by The Countryside Agency and the Home Office. It focused on the work of the Get Hooked on Fishing youth project, which runs nine angling projects for hard-to-reach young people.
The report found that angling could help with relationship building and personal development as well as providing something to do.
Dr Adam Brown, director of Substance, said: "We found that fishing worked more with young people than other sports. If kids are running around on a field there's less chance of one-to-one work."
