Soldiers to record stories for children

Early Years
The children of soldiers from Canterbury will get to hear their parents read them bedtime stories even when they are on the other side of the world.

Canterbury Sure Start is running a new project called Storytime Soldiers, where mums and dads in the Army will record bedtime stories onto CD so their children can listen to them. The soldiers will also have their photo on the cover of the CD and leave personal messages for their families on them.

Jo Treharne, project manager at the Sure Start, said: "This is all about building links between children and their parents. They are expected to be in Afghanistan for eight months, a long time in the life of a two-year-old."
