The Constructive Campaigning: Parent Support project is being set up byautism charity TreeHouse and will help mums and dads to improveservices.
TreeHouse intends to establish 10 parents' groups and provide them withsupport and guidance to help them campaign more effectively. The groupswill be spread across England although the size of the geographical areathey cover may vary.
"Too many parents of children with autism currently find themselvesangry and frustrated at the lack of decent services," said LindaRedford, director of national development at TreeHouse. "This projectwill shift the relationship between parents and professionals fromconfrontation to collaboration."
TreeHouse hopes to get a mixture of established campaign groups andparents new to campaigning involved in the project. The Department forEducation and Skills and several charitable trusts are paying for theproject.
