SOCIAL INCLUSION: Step Up launches inclusion project

1 min read

The Club 500 project will run in the borough of Newham, and is intended to reach 500 young people through schools over the three-year pilot project.

It is looking for funding of up to 300,000, but expects to start in April.

Marie Healy, new initiatives manager, said: "The idea of Club 500 is to work with young people to see how we can prevent marginalisation and social exclusion, focusing on young people from an Afro-Caribbean background, especially young men who are not as successful in terms of educational attainment."

Step Up offers a supported-housing project for vulnerable 16- to 25-year-olds living in hostels. It helps them to receive support and life-skills training as well as helping them move into their own accommodation and live independently.
