The Russell Commission has highlighted the need to make volunteering more accessible to young people, so they are aware of the benefits, including increased self-confidence and skills. This is especially true of disabled young people, and disability charity Skill has not been slow on the uptake.
Skill received funding from the Russell Commission in January this year to hold three awareness-raising events, called Step Up, in Birmingham, Leeds and London. These promoted volunteering to disabled young people, their parents and guardians and the wider community.
