Social Care: Review of foster care mentoring

Social Care
The Fostering Network is launching a project that will review mentoring schemes available to foster carers.

The year-long project will examine provision in England and result in the publication of good practice guidance.

Helen Clarke, development worker for the Fostering Network, said existing mentoring schemes offer a patchy service. "We want to look at the current level of provision and what types of mentoring there are," she said. "It will be an opportunity for us to know the level and extent of the work going on."

The project, which has been funded by £50,000 from the Children's Workforce Development Council, will look at how foster carers support other carers. It will also review the introduction of the council's foster care standards, which were launched earlier this year.
