Social Care News: Workforce - Lack of information on service split

The separation of the adult and children's social care workforce will not lead to children's issues slipping through the net, the head of workforce development for adult social care has insisted, after a report revealed information on the split was "lacking".

The latest report on the state of the social care workforce, published by Skills for Care (formerly Topss England), highlights that a great deal remains unknown about the workforce. Separating adult services from children's services is one such area.

Andrea Rowe, chief executive of Skills for Care, said it was difficult to separate the two, for example in knowing where to fit families and children making the transition to adult services.

"Knowing how to do it is obviously quite difficult as the Children's Workforce Development Council is not up and running yet," she said. "There has been an interim body and we've got on very well with the chair but a new chair and board may move in a different direction."
