Workforce: Talks over common care standards

The organisations in charge of occupational standards for the social care workforce are discussing how they will share responsibility when new workforce structures take effect.

Liz Morrey, development director for the shadow Children's Workforce Development Council, said it was in talks with Topss England about how responsibility would be shared for standards common to child and adult social care. It follows the launch of new National Occupational Standards by Topss England, covering areas such as residential work with children.

Occupational standards for inter-agency working have been included for the first time, while the old NVQ in caring for children and young people is now embedded in the new Health and Social Care National Occupational Standards.
