Analysis of children's social care workforce needed

Information needs to be collected to help inform changes to the children's social care workforce, a report by the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) has said.

To enable developments within the workforce the information needs to be analysed to identify the future skills needed to deliver services.

The State of the Children’s Social Care Workforce draws together the main statistical information about the workforce, including data on the different occupational groups, the numbers employed and their characteristics.

The report has been produced to aid workforce planning and help the children’s social care sector understand its workforce better and identify available skills.

Keith Brumfitt, director of strategy at CWDC, said: This review is the first major step in CWDC’s commitment to provide a data resource for the children’s workforce.  It reports on the current workforce in children’s social care and gives us a baseline from which to measure progress over the coming years.
