Social Care: Council staff to train as social workers

1 min read Social Care
Council employees could get training to become social workers as part of a suite of Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) projects to boost the sector.

The CWDC is setting up several projects to swell the ranks of the children's social care workforce and this week wrote to directors of children's services inviting them to get involved.

Among the projects is the Grow Your Own scheme, where council workers will be offered the chance to train as social workers. Employees taking part will have their course fees paid and will also get financial support while being trained.

Keith Brumfitt, director of research and development at CWDC, told the General Social Care Council's annual conference last week: "We are going to establish a new scheme called Grow Your Own to encourage employers to recruit and support the training of staff. We are going to ask if they want to participate in that."
