Social Care News: Wales - Carers subsidising funding shortfall

Almost six out of 10 foster carers in Wales say the money they receive from local authorities fails to cover their costs.

The finding prompted the Fostering Network to call on local authorities to introduce a minimum of 108 a week for carers.

Jane Butler, manager of the Fostering Network Wales, was "disappointed, but not surprised" by the findings.

A spokeswoman for the Welsh Assembly Government, which commissioned the report Fit to foster?, said: "The assembly will work with local authorities to consider how to make improvements in the service."
