Social Care News: Stats - Sunderland

77 out of 10,000 children are looked after (54 in England)

28% of looked-after children are aged 5 to 9 (22 per cent in England)

82% of looked-after children have received care orders (64 per cent in England)

81% of looked-after children suffered abuse or neglect (62 per cent in England)

One of Sunderland Council's priorities is to get more families to come forward and think about adopting a child through its "Do something amazing - transform a life" scheme.

Through its children and young people's strategic plan, published last year, it has brought together every objective, action and target relating to children into a single plan. And its Unlocking Potential initiative aims to increase looked-after children's access to education and training.
