- 74% of looked-after children are in care because of care orders (64 per cent in England)
- 11% of looked-after children placed for adoption (7 per cent in England)
- 37% of care-leavers have at least one GCSE at grade A*-G (41 per cent in England)
Northamptonshire Council's vulnerable children team aims to boost the life chances of children in public care by raising educational achievement.
Fewer care leavers had at least one GCSE in 2002 than the English average, but the council says it is working to improve its position.
Every child looked after for more than six months receives a personal education plan, and the vulnerable children's team works with schools to ensure their needs are met.
