13% of looked-after children with three or more placements during 2003/04 (13 per cent in England)

48% of young people leaving care with at least one GCSE at grade A*-G or a GNVQ in 2003/04 (49 per cent in England)

79% of looked-after children placed for adoption or in foster care at 31 March 2004 (81 per cent in England)

319 average gross weekly spend per looked-after child in foster care in 2003/04 (349 in England)

A spokeswoman for West Sussex County Council said: "The figures take into account our response to a significant number of unaccompanied child asylum seekers who are looked after. Our aim is to continue to improve and invest in our in-house family placement service and developments with education will play a key part in this."
