Social Care News: Social Care Stats - Redbridge

31 per 10,000 children are looked after (54 in England)

57% of looked-after children were accommodated under section 20 (32 per cent in England)

49% of looked-after children in care owing to abuse or neglect (62 per cent in England)

12% of looked-after children placed for adoption (7 per cent in England)

Redbridge has lower deprivation levels than much of inner London, so a smaller proportion of children are in care. Its family placements unit has been praised for a higher-than-average record in placing children for adoption. Redbridge is something of a trailblazer, with its pilot children's trust and children's rights officer.
