9 children per 10,000 are looked after (54 in England)

24 children per 10,000 were looked after in the past year (74 in England)

58 per cent of looked-after children accommodated under section 20 (34 per cent in England)

0% per cent of looked-after children are in care as a result of family dysfunction (10 per cent in England)

Rutland is England's smallest county and - Isles of Scilly aside - the smallest unitary authority. It has the country's lowest proportion of looked-after children on the mainland, none of whom have been placed for adoption or in care homes.

Rutland has recently completed an audit on its social services in response to the Victoria Climbie inquiry, which found there were no systems in place to determine how many children had been referred and what action had been taken.
