62% of young people looked after at 16 were in education, training or employment when they reached 19 in 2003/04 (55 per cent in England)

- 49% of young people left care with at least one GCSE at grade A*-G or a GNVQ in 2003/04 (49 per cent in England)

- 2,175 gross weekly spend per looked-after child in a children's home in 2003/04 (2,048 in England)

- 13% of looked-after children had three or more placements during 2003/04 (13 per cent in England)

Jackie Last, head of children's services at Dorset County Council, said the figures for 2004/05 were being updated and showed progress was being made. "For example, 76 per cent of young people who had left care were in education, training or employment in March 2005," she said.
