Social Care News: Social care stats - Blackburn with Darwen

71% of young people who were looked after at 16 were in education, training or employment when they reached 19 in 2003/04 (55 per cent in England)

- 1,525 gross weekly spend per looked-after child in a children's home in 2003/04 (2,048 in England)

- 73% of children looked-after continuously for at least a year had an annual health and dental check (75 per cent in England)

- 15% of looked-after children had three or more placements during 2003/04 (13 per cent in England)

A spokeswoman for Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council said: "We believe that better care can be provided for looked-after children if they are accommodated locally. To do this the council has had to build up its in-house capacity."
