The Parentally Aware Neighbourhood initiative will involve signs beingput up along routes to schools in the Boscombe area warning potentialattackers that parents are on alert. The initiative has recruited morethan 30 volunteers who will wear fluorescent vests and line the routeused by children to go to school.
Heidi Romero, head of Parentally Aware Neighbourhood, said the projectwas based on the principle of Neighbourhood Watch schemes. "We're notvigilantes - it's a deterrent. If we've got a sign in a potentialpredator's face it puts them off. We are fed up with our children beingput at risk."
She added that the initiative would be extended to cover other areas ofthe UK.
