Social Care News: Inspection - Children's rights function in doubt

The future of the children's rights function at the Commission for Social Care Inspection is uncertain after last week's announcement that the commission will be scrapped to set up a single inspectorate for children's services (Children Now, 23-29 March ).

Roger Morgan, children's rights director at the commission, told Children Now he did not know what would happen to his role yet, but he expected the function to continue. "The need to hear what children using social services have to say won't go away," he added.

He made his comments at a consultation event for nearly 700 children at Legoland in Windsor last week. Morgan organised the event for children aged 12 or under to find out what they think about the five outcomes in Every Child Matters.

One 11-year-old girl from Oxfordshire said: "I think a lot of young people want to express their feelings and this is a really good opportunity to do that."

Children visited five areas of Legoland where they answered simple postcard questions in exchange for small prizes.
