Social Care News: Inspections - Watchdog 'will not dilute socialcare'

1 min read
The role of social care will not be downgraded in the new super inspectorate for children, the head of children's services inspections at Ofsted has told Children Now.

The Commission for Social Care Inspection's chair, Dame Denise Platt, recently said she was concerned that the voice of social care would belost in the move to a single inspectorate (Children Now, 18-24 May).

The children's sector has been divided over plans to scrap thecommission and create a single inspectorate for children headed byOfsted, a move announced by Chancellor Gordon Brown in March. Plattdescribed the announcement as a farce.

These fears were heightened when it emerged that the new children'sinspectorate might lack the children's rights function that is currentlycarried out by the commission's Dr Roger Morgan. He has a legal duty tofind out what children supported by social services think (Children Now,3-16 August).
