Social Care News: Foster care - Council advertises for oldercarers

Plymouth City Council is asking parents whose children have left home to consider adopting a school-age child.

Adverts featuring the slogan: "Children flown the nest but you've stillgot love to give?" have been placed in newspapers across Devon andCornwall.

Mairead MacNeil, assistant director for children's social care at thecouncil, said: "Many people enjoy the peace and quiet once theirchildren have left home but others find their house feels empty and theymiss parenting."

She added: "We hope this campaign will target people in their 40s and50s who enjoyed bringing up their children and have more to give a childwho hasn't had the best start in life."

The campaign is part of the council's drive to increase the number ofschool-age children who are adopted.
