Social Care News: Residential care - Staffordshire failed accusedmanager

Staffordshire County Council has been criticised by the local government watchdog for failing to keep a children's care home manager adequately informed about allegations made against him.

In 2003, a resident of the care home made allegations of physical andsexual abuse. The council investigated but the man in question, whosename cannot be revealed, claimed the council failed to follow itsprocedures.

An investigation by the Local Government Ombudsman found that thecouncil failed to give clear information and waited four months beforetelling the manager that it wasn't taking action.

The council has been instructed to apologise to the manager and pay1,000 in compensation.
