Social Care News: Disability - ADSS set to look at health funding

The Association of Directors of Social Services is to look into how health services for disabled children are funded after a survey exposed a 100m budget black hole in council finances.

Last week it was revealed that children's social services face severebudget shortfalls this financial year (Children Now, 15-21 March).

Andrew Webb, co-chair of the Association of Directors of SocialServices' children and families committee, said: "One big issue that iscoming across and that we are going to do a bit more work on is thecross-over between health and social care. There are huge pressures oncosts, particularly around disabled children. The numbers are going upand costs are going up much faster than allowances." He added: "TheEvery Child Matters agenda is the one that's most under threat incircumstance like this, when you want to invest in preventative servicesyet money is locked into statutory services."
