Social Care News: Adoption - Agencies fail to meet standards

The proportion of adoption agencies that meet minimum standards for recruiting and vetting staff is disappointing, the Association of Directors of Social Services said last week.

Figures released by the Commission for Social Care Inspection last weekshowed that just 35 per cent of adoption agencies met the standards.

Andrew Webb, co-chair of the association's children and familiescommittee, said the figures were low. "But when you look at the detail,the figure is based on the poorest performing agencies, so it doesn'treflect the full range." He added: "These are minimum standards andfollowing warnings from Bichard we should be much further on."
