Social Care News: Adoption support - Consortium will push goodpractice

A consortium aimed at promoting good standards in adoption support services was officially launched this week.

The Consortium of Adoption Support Agencies' objectives will includepromoting good social work practice in relation to adoption andfostering.

The consortium currently has nine member organisations, but it is "eagerto open up membership to other adoption support agencies". Commissionfor Social Care Inspection-registered adoption support agencies andvoluntary adoption agencies that can demonstrate that "at least 80 percent of their work is adoption support" are being invited to apply formembership.

Monica Duck, the consortium's chair, said the organisation aims to"establish itself as a powerful voice, which will contribute to theshaping of national policy and practice".

The consortium was informally convened back in 2003 in response to theAdoption and Children Act 2002.
