After Adoption received a 267,378 Cabinet Office grant for theproject, which aims to reach adults facing chronic social exclusion. Thethree-year scheme is to be trialled in HMP Styal in Cheshire and HMP LowNewton in Durham.
It will provide support and counselling to inmates through individualand group sessions, helping them to understand and cope with theadoption of their children. After Adoption will also work with agenciessuch as the probation service to help support them upon release.
Peter Sandiford, head of service at After Adoption, said the schememight also work with people doing community service. Sandiford said:"One of the targets is to have a dissemination plan to deliver it inother parts of the country."
