Social Care News: Looked-after children - Survey illustrates risein spending

There has been a 15 per cent increase in spending on looked-after children in the last year, according to a snapshot survey.

The annual Children in Need survey, conducted over a week in February'shows the average expenditure by children's social services per childrose from 585 to 675 per week.

Andrew Webb, co-chair of the Association of Directors of SocialServices' children and families committee, said the increase reflectedthe work's complexity and factors such as the costs of using independentand voluntary services rising by more than inflation.
