SOCIAL CARE NEWS: Council restructure - Oldham to revamp children's services

1 min read
Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council is shaking up its children's services department following last year's zero-star rating for social services.

The Department of Health's Social Services Inspectorate said Oldham's children's services, previously given a one-star rating, were serving only some people well, and had poor capacity for improvement.

The rating, the lowest possible, was awarded last November after concerns were raised over out-of-hours services, understaffed fostering services, and poor performance on health indicators for children in care.

But Oldham's executive director for social services and health, Veronica Jackson, told Children Now that a restructuring of the department would lead to positive changes.

The council is currently advertising for an assistant director of children's services, a new post which follows the splitting up of responsibilities for learning disabled, mental health and children's services, previously together under one directorate.
