Social Care News: Adoption - Councils get tool to plan for Act

A new tool to help local authorities and adoption agencies implement the Adoption and Children Act 2002 has been published, but guidance on regulations accompanying the Act will not be finalised until June.

The tool, produced by the Department for Education and Skills, lists all the tasks local authorities and adoption agencies must complete before 30 December. Each task is accompanied either by a list of considerations agencies might make or an attached document with guidance.

In March, campaigners warned that regulations on adoption support services that will be introduced by the Act, which comes into force in December, could fail to ensure that adopted children receive essential help (Children Now, 30 March-5 April).
