The Department for Education and Skills announced last week that the legislation would now come fully into force on 30 December 2005, rather than September 2005 as originally planned. This will allow time for training and preparation after regulations, court rules and guidance are in place.
Jonathan Pearce, director of the charity Adoption UK, described the move as "sensible" and said: "It is important for children, parents and practitioners that sufficient time is given to education and training on the Act's provisions." - www.dfes.gov.uk/adoption.
